Three years after the official launch, AION finally turned to free-to-play in North America, along with the release of the massive 3.0 patch. Both new and veteran AION gamers can either visit the "Truly-Free" website to learn details about the business model or head to the original AION site to sign up and download the game.

Before Atreian Atlas, NCsoft has introduced the C.U.B.E for AION's new business model, and to balance the population in all servers, the publisher have done a server merge.
